This entry is on Podcast and Pod casting. Podcast is a multimedia digital file made available in the internet for downloading to a portable devices like media player, laptops, iPad and others. Pod casting is all about making the multimedia file available as a podcast.
This website is easy to use because it could just record your podcast and upload it wherever you require with just two clicks. The link above would prove this.
Podcasting is good because:
- If it is an audio recording, can help in practicing language development in terms of speaking before taking an oral test.
- It could be played many times, no matter video or audio and easy accessible because it could be transferred into portable devices
- It could also be a follow up activity after a lesson in the classroom. Teacher can ask the learners to reflect on the lesson learnt which at the same time encourages them to speak.
Though there are many websites which assist podcasting, here I focus on one of the website called, Vocaroo.
Vocaroo in classroom
Teacher could carry out two short reading comprehension using a an article from an ESL activity book and a newspaper article (authentic material). Students were asked to work as a pair to finish the task. Then, they (the students in pairs) were asked to reflect on the differences between the two types of text used in the task, (the book article and newspaper article) and also state their favourite type of text with reasons. Later, as a homework, the teacher could use Vocaroo as a medium for the students to record their reflection on the both text types and reasons for their favourite type of text. The recording could be beneficial for the teacher to listen to students' reasoning skills and at the same time understand the students' needs in learning.
